Student Organizations
Student organizations are a great way to get involved on campus, and to meet other students who share the same interests as you. Student organizations highlighted here include the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC); the Panamanian Student Organization; the Brazilian Student Organization; Sigma Delta Pi; La Tertulia, an RSO for students interested in all things Spanish and Latin American; and Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, and many more.
The Mission of the League of United Latin American Citizens is to advance the economic
condition, educational attainment, political influence, housing, health and civil
rights of the Hispanic population of the United States.

throughout the year where we present our country’s dances, music, and food. We are
a tight organization of nearly 200 Panamanian students, and we are always happy to
welcome new members!

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) was founded in Los Angeles,
California, in 1974 by a group of engineers employed by the city of Los Angeles. Their
objective was to form a national organization of professional engineers to serve as
role models in the Hispanic community. Our UVa chapter serves to further these beliefs
through our academic, professional, and recreational events on-grounds. We hope to
expand our influence to all facets of the Charlottesville area and create a community
that is Hispanic-inclusive, not exclusive.
